Blog assignment #57

Christmas has always been a time of tradition, and family. I remember from real early spending time with my family, doing "christmasy" stuff. From setting up the tree, hanging the lights, making gingerbread houses then eating them, trying to find the presents my mom hid from me I did it all. It wasn't just something we did as a family, it was a tradition. Every year the tradition comes back.

When I was young, christmas was the best time of the year. No school, eager shopping for presents, and snow meant it was time to set up the tree. That, and set up the lights outside the house. Because we lived in always lived in apartment buildings growing up, we had limited space to put a whole bunch of lights. But my parents knew how to make do. Every year we would fill the christmas tree with tons and then put 2 sets of lights on the windows and a wreath on top of the door. It made sense, no room, tons of lights.

Its not only the tree that we did every year. Of course because it was christmas, my parents bought me gifts. Most of them I had wanted, but others that I could really care less about. I mean like really, what little kid you know wants an ugly christmas sweater, that is so itchy you swear you have fleas. But still, it was a present. And most of the presents they bought me, they tried to hide. And of course because I was little, I knew it was up to me to find them. I would tear apart the house looking for something I knew I had requested. It was the highlight of presents.

Now I know it seems cliche, but yes we always made gingerbread houses, with the little gumdrops and all that. It was fun, but I quickly outgrew it. It wasn't it because I hated it, I loved it. Its just that I outgrew it, and we no longer make gingerbread houses. Its nothing special.... but I did love to eat them. It took me 2 weeks to finish eating a house.

Thats pretty much it

Blog assignment #55

So my thanksgiving, wasn't all I wanted it to be. Alot happened, but not enough time. It should've been longer... alot longer. But oh well. It's how school makes us live.

So anyway, my break started that friday we got out, had to work... i  didn't really want to but i had to anyway. Joked around, then got back to work. Larry came and picked me up so we lieft kinda early. earlier than the jones' who were supposed to leave like super super early so. went home, chilled out, watched tv. i cooked dinner, i forgot what i made. that saturday got up and a cleaned my house and my room, chilled out. began working on stuff for english. i hate englsh.

the next day was sunday... i didn't go to church, i just stayed home and slept all day. people came over which was ok, they're not too much fun. monday and tuesday were ok, just did "homework". i wasn't paying too much attention though so i don't know what i did. I remember taking like almost 4 hours on that stupid Beowulf thing they have. i was so angry! what type of foolishness is that?! 6 sections on stuff that makes absolutely no sense.... shameful.

wednesday was cool, still did work, but i was so bored so i slept most the time. had some friends come over. then ate dinner and played xbox the rest of the night. fell asleep around 2 or 3 in the morning. i don't know. then thursday just chilled, i watched slept in really really late. it was great. we had ppl bring us food so we didn't have to cook. someone brought us hen... it was dry as bone! nasty.

friday and saturday didn't really do much, just chilled. worked on a few stuff for online... i was trying to catch up. watched tv, hung outside with some friends, it was pretty ok. i didn't really do much this holiday... which makes me kind of sad. But i do believe it should've been longer than just a stupid week. maybe two weeks would've done it.

I Love College.

It's a word you hear all your life. It's the word that makes seniors cringe and leap for joy all at the same time. College... It's a big deal. Now in today's society, it's either been a make or break institution. If you don't go college, you loose out on life.

Now the thought of college might be fun for most, but the fun does come at a cost. Between studying for tests on subjects, that seem like a totally different language to you, and trying to get enough sleep you may not have enough time to hang out with your friends. Now if you do spend time with them, you might wanna make it as special and as memorable as possible. But other maybe a few times a month, you may not be able to spend very much time with them. This is a very serious problem, because they're the ones you spend most time with. I mean they are your friends after all, it'd be a crime not to spend time with them.

This isn't to say that you should totally blow studying and go hang out, I'm just saying be wise in how you manage your time. Or better yet, invite them over to help you study (seems lame, but everyone has at least one "super smart" friend who's a know-it-all). This not only helps you study, but it also allows you to see the ones you miss so dearly. Countless and countless of friendships have been lost due to overtime studying and lack of time for friends there of.

This is not to say that you'll loose friends, it just means that a majority of high school friendships end due to college. The possibility of making new friends in college who have the same schedule is quite possible, but even then it is still hard to stay connected due to personal time for work and such. The simple fact is, that even though you try and try to balance school and work and friends, something is always gonna have to be put on the back burner for a small amount of time.

It almost seem impossible to go to college and not have to give up something that means something to you. You grow up and things that once mattered the most to you, somehow seem to mean less and you begin to realize what in life means more than just having fun all the time. Yes, having fun with friends is awesome, but somehow you begin to realize that friendships aren't always gonna last and the ones that do are real and true friends who no matter what will be there... even if you do blow them off to study.

Good Pets VS Bad Pets

How many times have we asked our parents for a pet? Once? Twice? More than a thousand times? I know for me it was about more than a million times. Now don't get me wrong, I've had pets. Actually they've all been hamsters (except one... no wait two). But I was wondering, what are exactly are the best pets for someone to have?

Well let me tell you, hamsters are fun pets to have, inexpensive, and hardly any work to do. But they are nocturnal creatures, meaning they sleep doing the day and play at night. Not only that, but they can easily slip out of small cracks and holes, a.k.a they can escape easily.... not the best pets to have. In addition to bad pets, is turtles and iguanas. Now don't get me wrong, I had a turtle too, but reptiles (yes a turtle is a reptile) naturally carry the salmonella virus. This can make little kids very sick. Not to mention that most males are very aggressive at certain times of the year.   Now even though reptiles are not really recommended, corn snakes make excellent pets for children above the age of 6. They need only one mouse a week and a heating lamp in one corner.

In addition to this great pet, there are also many more. Dogs and cats also make very good pets. Though they are a handful, and not recommended for children under the age of 5, dogs and cats teach children how to be responsible. Feeding, washing, and making sure the pet is healthy are just part of the many the child or children have. The effectiveness of the duty to keep up the pet is high and it instills high priority evaluation in the owner.

History of Sticky Notes

Okay, so this may seem lame, but have you ever thought about the history of "Sticky Notes"? I know, its not something normally thought about, but I've actually thought about it once. I know, I know "nerd", but actually i learned alot. I also realized that most mistakes can be great miracles.

Sticky notes started out as just a mistake. Dr. Spencer Silver accidentally created a "low tack" glue that was pressure sensitive (it stuck to things when pressure was applied to it) and reusable. He started promoting it within the company he worked in. After about 5 years of no success in promoting it, his friend Art Fry came up with the idea of using the adhesive for a bookmark. After several more years of intense marketing and failure, 3M (the company Silver worked for) decided to call it quits. A year later they decided to retry and gave free samples to some people in Boise, Idaho (capital of Idaho). THEY LOVED IT! 3M decided to follow through on their advertising and now we have the nation-wide sensation named "Sticky Notes".

Yea, I know this history lesson was kind of boring, but when you think about it, if it had not been for Dr. Spencer Silver we wouldn't have the great computer application "stickies". Had it not been for every one of those people in Idaho (somewhere out there) we would not have not the Sticky Note Pen ($4.95 at walmart). When you really think about it, it wasn't really a mistake when Dr. Silver made the sticky adhesive that holds a thin little paper to our favorite books, and other things.

Monster Vs. Coffee

What do you think of when your tired and need some energy? you could go to sleep, but at times when you don't have the leisure to do so, you usually of think if getting something that will give you energy. We're all tired in the mornings, i mean its just a fact. Day after day i see someone (won't name names... Matt) get a huge thing of MONSTER ENERGY DRINK and chug it down so he can have enough energy to last through Ms. Moise's dreaded Chemistry 2 class which happens to be 1st hour. (yeah, i know... not fun.) But that got me to thinking, if the school sells coffee here, why is it that students (not just Matt) go out their way just for a simple energy drink.

There really isn't any question as to why so many people love monster. i mean honestly... have you tasted it? no, seriously have you?.... have you? The flavor is rich and it has just enough kick to make you want more. But that's not all that's in there. It has Caffeine (much like coffee), L-Carnitine, Taurine (whatever that is), and good old sugar. It hypes us up. Its designed to keep us up for hours. Coffee on the other hand, is supposed to give us energy for hours, but only after a FEW cups! most people just drink about 1-2 cups. That's nearly not enough to last for a while. Plus, coffee gives you a temporary sugar high that is short lived and you end up crashing. This is a problem, because in today's society it is imperative to keep moving, from early morning till late night.

But this still doesn't fully answer the question "why are they so amazing?" and "why is it better?". I asked a few people why and the results came up that 1. it tastes WAY better 2. its cold and you can buy the can and 3. it gives you more energy. It also helps you think, due to a key ingredient: Ginseng. Though Monster has caffeine like coffee it has better ingredients and does not give you the after feeling like coffee does. I personally drink Monster XXL (not inteded for children under 10th grade), and i find that it does help me stay awake longer and that i don't crash as hard, or fast, as I do when I drink coffee. I like it more than coffee and it does in fact taste better.

So in all this, it seems like people like Monster more and it is better for you. But like coffee it should be drunk in moderation. That doesn't mean stop, it just means that drinking 2 or 3 everyday isn't the best idea. 1 every other day or 2 a week seems resonable. But hey I can't make that call for you. I know I'm probably  still gonna drink 1 a day.

Blog assignment #40

Ah blogs, its the one thing everyone tends to think about whenever someone else mentions journalism. They help us, they hurt us, they're updated daily, blogs are a part of our life. If it were not for blogs, everyone would probably fail the class. This blog is for you Ms. Melancon. I hope you like it.

Now when it comes down to it, blogs are an essential part of our grade in journalism. Whether it be yearbook or newspaper, everyone sits there staring at their computer wondering why in the world the blog seems to take forever. It may just be that we're too lazy to do anything, nah, that can't be it. But truth is, most blog assignments take either a whole hour, or more to do. This is not an easy task seeing we already have other stuff to do in other classes. The thought of doing blogs at home is simply preposterous.

No one wants to do homework at home. Yea it's called homework, but doing homework actually takes away time from our day. Time we could be using for other things, like projects we have in English or other subjects. Doing blog after blog after blog is just tiring. Not to say that its all bad, I mean some are fun. Most of them are fun and creative, they just take so long and by the time anyone is finished over half the day seems to be gone. This is causing the youth of America to become slow and lethargic in their thinking, this leads to poor grades and even angrier parents. (not that your to blame, im just saying just saying it to say it)

If no one does anything about the blogs, students fail and privileges are taken away thus creating a tiny home prison for the student. However, if one does try to attempt to do a blog assignments they spend over half the day looking for things that they think pertain to the subject at hand. Its not always easy to find pictures, Google isn't always reliable. But that is neither here nor there, because the fact of the matter is that blog assignments are here to "help".

So with all that said its safe to say that most students hate doing blogs on a daily basis. It would be much more comfortable to do one, every other day, or once maybe twice a week. The pain and agony of the children are depending on it. Thats pretty much it.

Blog assignment #37

Ah yes, Facebook. It's name brings smiles to people's faces.... hence the name FACEbook. Memories of fun times on "fbchat" and laugher at statuses run across one's mind whenever its name is mentioned. This is not an easy task. To say that this one little phrase, this... this one little website, that brings joy to over one million people is the whole reason for its existence.

Facebook is a site that was originally designed for only college students who wanted to keep in touch with their friends and teachers. Though it started out of a small dorm room with only two college students as its administrators, it has grown to over a million users, both in college and not in college.  Its layout is simple.... you log on, and a screen that shows you a list of friends comes up. Within this list it details all that your "friends" are doing. It displays anything from where they are at a certain point in time, to who they are dating (or not dating) and what that person believes in.

Most people who join, use it anywhere from 12 am to... 12 am. yes a whole 24 hours. It seems that people are always on facebook. Even if they're not, they have a tab open with the line "Facebook- Home"! You can't run away!!!! it has gotten so bad that there are even sidebar gadgets and widgets that allow you to access news feeds and statuses right from your own desktop! IT IS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO BE ON FACEBOOK EVEN ONCE A DAY.

Now this may be helpful, in the aspect that you can catch up with friends whom you haven't seen in a long time, or just know what "lil kid from across the street" is doing almost every second of everyday. I mean after all, it was intended for people to keep up with what is happening with their friends. But it can also very harmful as well. People have become so addicted to facebook that they literally put every single detail of their life on there. Now if someone wants to be stupid and get stalked, that's on them, but how many people overuse facebook and post like twenty to thirty statuses a day? Tons of people, if you wanna know. Facebook can be seen as a invasion of privacy to some and a way to get stalked by fat, old men with nice hairy beer-guts.

yes, yes, yes I know, I know. That's mean, but it's the truth. So there it is.... there is the fact of facebook and how it is. Don't ask me why it's like this... it just is. And that's all i got to say 'bout that. (Forest Gump, people come on)
