Blog Assignment #11

Cell Phone Design
So apparently i'm great at designing cell phone. When i tested it, all but one snooty, stuck up lady, said it was great. Man that lady made me mad, i almost had a perfect test run. well yea, it was great. the people liked it, i kinda liked it. but i still had a good test.
Crash Scene
so i did the crash test thingy. it was confusing at first. I got through it though. i got everything right until the questions at the end. i got 3 wrong. but it was ok.
Odd Machine
this was ok, kinda kindergartner-ish. i felt slow. but it was fun, and i got through it just fine. got everything right. but i still had fun.
Weather
The weather thing was the trickiest. like it was really hard. i hated it. it was the one that took me the longest. Ms. Melancon, i really hated this. hey everyone, i really hated this. but i still did pretty good i guess.
Hip Replacement and brain stimulation.
that was the NASTIEST thing i've ever done. i never become a doctor.... 'nough said.

Blog Assignment #10

http://kids.generationcures.org
its is a website for kids about trying to find cures for various sicknesses kids go through. it offers games for kids to play, and information on how to find sponsors for research. i personally wouldn't use it. i'm just not that into this website. but it is a very good source for information for sick children.
www.pbskids.org
I used to like this site... when i was like 6. but i outgrew it.BCS kids can use it if they want to. makes no difference to me. It offers games for kids to learn how to do stuff, like add and subtract and all that. so it's an educational website. students can learn how to do things, or just brush up on small things.
www.disney.com
This site isn't educational at all. its just for kids to come and play games. but its a cool site i guess. i don't use it. but still, kids can go to play games in a safe, family-friendly website.
www.Nickjr.com
This site actually is educational. although it may be in reference to nickelodeon, it does not have the same values. "nickjr" values the growth of the children's minds, because they know that "children are the future". but yes, it is a very fun site. except they have dora.... dora is stupid. i don't go there, but my little cousins do. if BCS students want to play on there they can.
www.McGruff.com
This place is kinda ok. it's an educational website where kids can get advice on all sorts of things. for instance, one topic is "vandalism". McGruff tells kids how to spot vandalism and how to report it. he also tell them how to avoid such matters. i would recommend this site to little kids, not so much BCS students. well maybe if it was the kinder-tot people thing kids. but yes its very interesting.
 www.clubpenguin.com
this is a "fun" website where kids adopt a penguin. they pay $5.99 a month for a tiny igloo. now why any parent would be so stupid as to pay for something their kids are gonna outgrow in 3 months i don't know. but still, its safe and family-friendly enviroment for children. all chat on the site is monitored and kids are encouraged to report "bad" chat. i personally would NEVER use this site, and i probably woouldn't pay $5.99 for my kids to. i could use that for somethi
ng important.... like micki d's on wednesday morning.(LJ) but yea.
Google Earth
kids can learn geography and play around wuth the world. its fun adn awesome. i played with it on wes's computer. the only scary part, is that if a stalker wanted to track someone down and see what there house looked like they could. but hey, its fun. so yes.
toontown.com
now i personally played this when i was younger. its not that bad... if you have the 3 day trial. my mom wouldn't let me pay $9.95 a month. i still don't know why parents are that stupid to do that. i wouldn't. but its fun. not educational. but its still worth the 3 day trial.
KidsCom
this site makes absolutely no sense to me but oh well. its a "safe" alternative to Myspace. why little kids want myspace, i don't know, because not many people use it now anyway so yea. but people say its safe for kids to use this site if they're too young for myspace. again, it makes no sense to me
Cartoonnetwork.com
uh, again, this is an uneducational website for kids. i personally use it from time to time. but only when i'm like extremely bored and am too lazy to turn on my xbox. it offers fun games from hit shows like "Dexter's Lab", "teen titans" and other shows. its kinda fun. not really into those kind of games anymore, but any kid would probably enjoy it. it wouldn't help grades at all, but it gives us something to do, instead of going out and breaking something,

Picture 15!!!

Ok come on, tell me that ain't cool. i personally know how hard it is to try that. For this guy to get it, i give him props. the timing on this photo is phenomenal, and its so clear. good job oli.

Picture 14

Ah 5th avenue.... home to one of the biggest Starbucks in America. Its such a nice day out. i think that Asian man wants to cross the street. but still the picture is pretty good looking. its nice and calm.

Picture 13

This picture looked really weird to me. like seriously, the guy is sitting there in a lake just reading a paper. what type of foolishness is that!? but yea it just looks weird. thats pretty much it.

Picture 12

I thought this was funny. its a picture of a dog taking a picture, whats better than that? nothing i tell you nothing. i just hope that the dog isn't blind from the flash... he would probably mess up the picture

Picture 11

ok, i know what your thinking. "Oh god jon, another gray background picture?" well i like this one more, the red from the umbrella and the traffic light give just a blot of fiery  passion. this is by far the best gray background i have seen.

Picture 10

This picture is really interesting because you don't really see that many 1st person p.o.v. pictures. The intensity of the impact in the picture just seems so important. He's loosing though so it kinda sucks. but still he gets style points for taking a great picture.

Picture 9

HAHAHAH! i remember there used to be this show way back in the day called Hamtaro. Y'all remember?.... no? really? no..... nothing? well anyway, i was like "OMG! IT'S HAMTARO!" but as i continued to study the picture, i realized that its floating on top of a pool. the lighting that the pool is just perfect. and look at that water! so crystal clear you can see the bottom!

Picture 5

OMG!!! old man just walking around with a tiger like it ain't nothing??!!! wow, i love this picture. the old man is just walking and a tiger just so happens to be his pet. its awesome and random at the same time.

Picture 6

I love how this picture is just all black and white. the contrast from the rain glossed street brings on the details of the picture and the boy running.  i think this picture just means that everyone has a place to go, and that we shouldn't let some bad weather slow us down.

Picture 7

This picture is kinda cute. yes, i used cute. there's not really any other way to decribe this little robot. he looks like he's a baby robot and he just got in trouble. the background also brings him to life. He just seems so awesome. We'll call him billy

Picture 8

This picture looks really beautiful. it kinda reminds me of a church in mexico. i don't know why. But yea, the way the little trees just give a small splash of color to the gray background. overall it just looks so peaceful.

Picture 4

OH NO! SUPERMAN'S IN TIMEOUT!!! ha not really, but that was my first thought when i saw this. it was so funny. plus the lighting  hits his face and you can see he's mad. hahah funny stuff.

Picture 3

I chose this picture cuz it looks abstract. The red and white clash in a desolate corner layered in brick. you might not be able notice right off the bat, but there's an old lady in the middle. well she's not real old... like mid 50's. but yea it looks cool.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Picture 2

This picture looks really interesting. It kinda looks like the beginning to a music video i saw, i forgot which one.  its dark, but you have enough light to see the intensity of the concrete. the clouds in the back add to the suspense of the picture. there are angels in the corner kind of signify that there's always gonna be someone watching over you.

Picture 1

I like this picture because it shows how busy NYC is. The gray in the background bring out the light. If you look you'll notice a old couple walking, this signifies their love for the sights and sounds of times square. It portrays how people in the city live day to day. I like want to move there one day.

Fox News Anchors Can't Grasp "Pretty Simple" Legislative Procedure
Fox news reporter Bill Hemmer, gave false information in his news story about "self-executing rule", which aired march 17, 2010. One of his associates, Carl Cameron, reported that "it was actually pretty simple" and that "it's a political magic trick."

Philadelphia Anchor Accused of Vandalism on Fellow Anchor's Car.
Philadelphia NBC10 news anchor Vince DeMentri is suspected of vandalizing co-worker Lori Delgado's car. Vince has already faced disciplinary actions, but his latest allegations seem far-fetched even for him. Vince DeMentri was questioned on July 3rd according to Philly.com, but no results. Although there seemed to be some missing things from the news set, but no one sees how that ties into the case. while there have been no breaks in the case, the news staff of NBC10 has made changed. Delgado will continue to work in the morning, while Dementri is to work in the evening.

Tax Warrant Issued for CBS News Anchor Katie Couric
This is really a stupid story, but oh well. It came to light that Katie Couric is in trouble with New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. They issued a warrant against her for an outstanding bill of $210.41. Katie's spokeman, Matthew Hiltzik, says that the warrant and older bills were sent to Couric's old address and that they will settle the matter once she returns from vacation. this may be because she has been struggling with her ratings at her new CBS News Post.

Philadelphia News Anchor is Aressted for Punching Cop.
Philadelphia news reporter Alycia Lane was arrested in Manhattan at 2 a.m. sunday morning for punching a cop. Blog Assignment #7 pt 2

Big and Tall (not the store)
What's the first thing you think when you see the coffee bar in N6? "Yay! Coffee!!!". Yea, well when I first look at the coffee I look to see if they have cups. No cups equals no coffee. This is a very sad, and depressing thought.  But that got me wondering, "Why don't we have bigger cups?".  Bigger cups equals more coffee. More coffee equals more energy. More energy means the more work we'll get done. The more work we get done equals the less time we spend getting up for little, tiny cups of coffee.

Now i don't mind getting the tiny cups, i mean, i use them all the time. But when people constantly get up every 5 minutes just for another cup, don't you ever wonder "why can't they just use a big cup?". Then it hit me, people don't use big cups, because it either costs too much to get at the moment, or they just forget. But what if the school got disposable big cups???? That way if we happen to forget ours at home, or we don't have one the school will have some right there for us to use all day.

Of course the cups would have to be disposable, but at least if the school buys bigger cups then we wouldn't need to get up all the time just for coffee. This actually would save the school money, now i know what your thinking "What?... How?". Just let me explain. See if we use bigger cups, yea that would take more than one of those small cups, but then we wouldn't have to keep getting up 3 or 4 times an hour and the school wouldn't have to make as much coffee as they do now with the small cups.this would be a wise, and cost efficient plan to implicate.

Now it may silly or whatnot to some people, but I'm serious. This would help the school in saving money. I know from personal experience, that the small cups of coffee just ain't cutting it. Us students need more than just a tiny jolt of energy. We need a full recharge. At least with this bigger cup plan, we can have enough coffee to recharge us and keep us awake long enough to get out of school.

Now that we seen what could be improved on this little liberty we call "coffee" we can build a better foundation and actually bare school. Not to mention it would save the school tremendous amounts of money on coffee.

Blog Assignment #7

This Friday I...
This Friday I went to the movies with some friends. It was fun. We went to go see the greatest movie I've seen this year. This movie had everything! It was filled with suspense, action, and adventure. It really was worth $9.25 that the weird looking lady at the ticket booth charged.

The movie we went to go see was Inception. I heard everyone saying it was good, and I wanted to go check it out for myself. At first we were going to see Vampires Suck but then we decided to go see Inception. When we first got in the theater it was half full. This kinda concerned me, but as we took our seats I started to think about how cool the previews looked.

The movie began kind of weird. I didn't really get what was going on at first, but as I kept watching, I became enthralled. I won't give you a spoiler alert, but I will tell you one thing. You have to keep up with what's going on, because if you stop for one moment, you will loose it. But like I said, it is worth going to go see. But be sure to go to Perkins Rowe, because they don't have a curfew, unlike Rave.

It really was the best movie I've seen this year. I don't know how many times I can repeat that. It just was so awesome. But I do recommend everyone to go see this movie. It doesn't matter if you go alone, or if you go with someone. Either way, you will be glad you saw it. I know I was.

So next time you're out with friends, and you guys want to see a movie that is action packed and totally amazing, go see Inception. It will keep you captivated till the very end, when.... Well never mind, I'll let you guys find out for yourself.

Blog Assignment #6- Online

What do you really do when you're supposed to be working online?
When you're sitting at your laptop, do you ever wonder "What are they really doing?". I know when I stare into space, I look around and wonder that. Who knows what people are really doing. Are they actually looking at videos on youtube? Are they playing a online game? Shopping? perhaps listening to music? Yes, it may seem silly, but are we really doing what we're supposed to?

We tend to do things we know we're not supposed to. It's human nature. When I look around, I know the people who aren't really working. I mean, sometimes school just gets boring and we need a tiny little boost, besides the coffee, to keep us going. I get that, teachers somewhat get that. It seems that no matter how hard people try to fight it, they can't escape from the fact that they need something extra. Now although listening to music, and playing games is fun and all, it can also be a hindrance.

I know that when I listen to music, I can't help but sing along or react someway to it.  And all people are pretty much like that, they can't help it. I won't name names, but I see people singing and stuff all over the place when they work.  It's funny to see them act that way, but then I wonder "What class are they supposed to be taking?". Then I hear what kind of grades they're making and I think to myself "Oh, yep that's the music showing.". Now I'm not saying that listening to music is bad, trust me I'm not, I'm just saying that maybe before we listen to music or do other stuff, we should pay attention to what we have to in our classes.

That way, if we get all our work out of the way we can have more time to listen to music and play games online. It's hard at first, but the payoff is definitely worth it. It makes it easier to make good grades. The more good grades we make, the more faster we can move on to the next lesson. The faster we move on, the more time we can have to listen to music and do other things. It's a thought worth considering.

Now remember, I'm not saying not to listen to music while you work. I'm just saying use it wisely. Don't just focus on the music, be sure to finish your assignments first.  And for the people who play games online.... Well all I can say is, don't do it. The more you play games, the further you'll fall behind, which means the more work you'll have to do when you're out of school. But hey, if you want to not work that's all on you.

Blog Assignment #6- How many cups

How Many Cups of Coffee Do You Get a Day?
This year was a year of firsts. the first year we have online classes, first year everyone can fit in the same building (although the little kids run everyone over in the hallway). It's just a year of firsts. But another first at the school is the first year to have coffee available to the students. This is one of the biggest and greatest additions to the school.

While this is a very helpful addition to the school, it also seems to be a small inconvenience. while coffee may be the greatest thing known to hard working students, it seems that with every passing minute one by one, students get up to get another cup of coffee. Now I personally know I get up about 3 or 4 times for a cup.... when I have money, but it got me wondering.... why do we students drink so much coffee during the day? A poll  from coffeecupnews.org show that the average person drinks about 1 to 3 cups of coffee a day! That's just on one day, an average of 15 cups of coffee Monday through Friday!

Now I did a little survey and I found out that the average answer for the number of cups of coffee drunk by students is 2 to 4 cups a day on average. Now that's not all bad, I mean I LOVE coffee. But is all this coffee drinking safe for us? I looked up the pros and cons of drinking coffee and actually according to Harvard researchers, they say that coffee can have some health benefits when drunken in moderation. For instance, the risk of type 2 diabetes, is lower in coffee drinkers than that of non-coffee drinkers.

Other instances include, reducing the risk of liver damage in those who have liver disease and reducing the risk of Parkinson's disease. It is also shown that it improves alertness and endurance in long-duration physical activities. With all these health benefits, kind of makes you wonder "Well what are the health risks to drinking coffee?". Well as it turns out, coffee isn't totally innocent. it does have some cardiovascular effects, such as; increased heart rate, raised blood pressure, and occasional irregular heartbeat. With all this said, it makes kind of makes you wanna quit coffee doesn't it? well as long as you remember to drink it in moderation and not in excess you should be fine.

So in other words, while coffee may be the only hope you have at staying awake in school, remember that it is a addictive stimulate and it does have health risks. But along with those health risks come health benefits. So before you go off and drink a whole pot of coffee, remember the health risks and benefits, and if drunk in moderation it can be a very, very good thing to have.

But still blank.
Ethan- your page looks really nice. Very colorful, that's a good factor. Um, i'm not sure whats up with all the
fish, but it's all good. Um, try and put some more pictures up. That would give those empty boxes something to have, and it would liven the page up a bit more. But overall it's good. Good job.
Alexis- wow, your page is very pink. it looks good though, just missing a few pictures and stuff. But overall it looks straight.
Wes- Looking great man, love all the halo stuff and the car looks awesome. But there's just one problem... um... where's MY picture in there man??? i though we was cool, homies, brothers... kinda. Blog Assignment #1 :)

My Life
This is my entire life story, from start to about this time. I was born in Chicago Illinois on April 13th and my mom says it was the most happiest moment of her entire life. I was a small baby, like extremely small. The doctor said he could fit me in the palm of his hand, which personally I think is an exaggeration, but yea. So this is what my life contained of…. So far.
I grew up in Chicago for most of my life. It was fun; we had snow and really fun summers. I didn’t have to worry about anything! All my schools were in walking distance from my house, well all except one, but I never liked that school anyway. Early evenings and most of Saturday afternoons were spent on the playground. I would ride my bike as fast as I could to try and get there. Every kid there laughed and played, most of them got bloody noses from trying to  walk on the monkey bars but were too short to do so. Yes, yes that was me.
But sadly when I was 11, we moved to New Orleans. It was ok, I went to school and played with some of the other Hispanic people on the block. My mom was there translator so I kind of had to play with them. But they weren’t all bad, most of them were nice. I loved going to their houses after school to eat authentic Mexican food and play football in the big overgrown field next to my apartment building. We never played two-hand touch, we always played tackle which was dangerous because there was broken beer bottles and rocks all over the field. But it was so fun! I was always the one who was told to tackle the big heavy guys, I guess they thought I could handle them… WRONG!
After living in New Orleans for about 8 or 9 months, hurricane Katrina hit and we were forced to evacuate. I didn’t really mind, I loved going to my uncle Pedro’s house. It was big and it had a huge backyard, where I could do whatever I wanted. We lived there for about 3 months and then moved a small subdivision in Baker. I was always be outside playing basketball with my neighbor, until we accidentally broke his mom’s windshield with a baseball bat. We weren’t allowed to play outside anymore. Soon after that we moved to another house that was even bigger! But there was no one to play with outside, so I always tried to go to Larry’s house.
Then we moved to the house we’re at now. I love it! Huge house with a huge yard. It’s sad I’ll be leaving for college soon, but I’m ready for college so it’s ok.  So that’s pretty much how my life story goes.  I live and let live. And I still try to find a way to go to Larry’s house, because there’s not much that goes on in my house.

Blog Assignment #2- Happy News

Wax and Soap Clean Up Obstacles to Improve Batteries
On August 13th scientists discovered that soap and wax can actually build up electrodes in cheaper lithium ion batteries. According to Daiwon Choi “Paraffin provides a medium in which to grow good electrode materials”. Because consumers use lithium batteries for everything from cell phones to portable devices for music, scientists are trying to find cheaper metal oxides for these batteries.
The electrons in the lithium batteries charge and stick to the metal casing thus making them rechargeable, when the electrons  that aren’t stuck to the casing are all used the electrons stuck to the casing are released and the uncharged ones are then stuck to the casing where they can be recharged. The casing for the batteries are made out of cobalt and nickel, while these work for the batteries, they are very expensive which leaves the scientists to want to make a more affordable casing. Also by replacing oxide with phosphate, the batteries will be able to hold longer charges
Haitian Children Use Soccer to Move On
July 27th, 2010 The Galaxy and The Tony Sanneh Foundation brought a young boy named Josue Alexi and 14 of his teammates to a soccer field in suburban Minneapolis  to practice for the largest youth soccer tournament in the country. Josue had been beaten almost his entire life, from poverty, hunger and the recent earthquake. But when Josue reached Minneapolis, he found a chance to smile. After winning a victory for the Schawn’s USA Cup the Haitians were just one step below the elite level. All 15 boys, who are under the age of 15, danced and sang songs as gold metals were hung around their necks. For the first time in their lives, they were winners.
As they made their way back home, families from all over opened their homes and swimming pools to the young champions. “It’s only been four days and we’re already crying tear that they have to leave so soon,” said Karen Anderson, one of the mothers who opened her home. Even though none of the boys spoke any English, their smiles were enough. They were happy and they wanted the whole world to know.
